CEH v9 Question of the Week: iptables

CEH-v9-QOWBlueYou have just been hired as an apprentice Security Engineer. Your manager asks you to take a look at iptables on a specific device.

You quickly remember that iptables are:

 A. Part of Cisco routing tables
B. A command line linux based firewall
C. Define the subnet the network device is located on
D. CIDR notation for DHCP

Reveal Answer

The correct answer is B.

iptables is a command-line firewall utility that uses policy chains to allow or block traffic. When a connection tries to establish itself on your system, iptables looks for a rule in its list to match it to. If it doesn’t find one, it resorts to the default action.
