PaGP:    Auto to Auto – no channel
Auto to Desirable – channel
Desirable to Desirable – channel

LACP:    Passive to Passive – no channel

Active to Active – channel

No protocol (ON):
On to On is the only valid combination, anything else will cause the member links to fail.
