CCNA R&S Question of the Week: Connection-Oriented Service

CCNAQuestionWeek15

Which protocol uses a connection-oriented service to deliver files between end nodes?

A. TFTP
B. DNS
C. FTP
D. SNMP
E. RIP

Reveal Answer

Answer: C.

Of the protocols listed, only TFTP (Trivial File Transfer Protocol) and FTP (File Transfer Protocol) deliver files. Of those two, TFTP runs on top of UDP and FTP rides on top of TCP. TCP is what give traffic riding above IPv4 or IPv6 their reliability or connection orientation. So, all protocols that ride on top of TCP are said to be reliable or connection oriented.
