CCNP R&S Question of the Week: IPv6 Traffic Filter Impact

ccnpQoW01

For security reasons, an IPv6 traffic filter has been applied under multiple interfaces on the local router. However, shortly after the traffic filter was applied, OSPFv3 neighbor adjacencies go down. What caused this issue?

A. The traffic filter is blocking all ICMPv6 traffic.
B. The global anycast address must be added to the access control list to allow OSPFv3 to function.
C. The link-local addresses were explicitly denied.
D. IPv6 traffic filtering cannot be applied to more than one interface.

Reveal Answer

Answer: C.

OSPFv3 uses link-local IPv6 addresses for neighbor discovery and other features, so if any IPv6 traffic filters are implemented be sure to permit the link local address so that local communication can function.
